Summary
Eventually, there will be a page for every known Grateful Dead concert setlist. I started with 1995 and have been working my way down. My hope is for the setlist pages to be as accurate as possible with regards to the song list, segues, and song timings. I plan to use song timings from official releases whenever possible. Moving forward, I will be very eager to learn about any new setlist discoveries or corrections as I intend for these to be the most accurate Grateful Dead setlists ever compiled.
1965-1969
There are countless concerts during this period for which we have no setlist and no recording. For 1965, there are no live recordings or verifiable setlists for any concert at all. Deadweb will be focused on the song and setlist information that is verifiable. Deadweb will not list 1965-1969 concerts for which there are no known setlist and recording. I will leave that job to Deadlists and other setlist sites that list every known Grateful Dead concert for historic purposes. These empty concert entries wouldn't feel right on Deadweb and will be excluded. For the 1965-1969 period, a setlist will need to have a corresponding recording of some kind to be listed on Deadweb. Hearsay setlists from this period just can't be relied upon because of time, memory loss, drugs, etc. There must be some tangible evidence to prove that the setlist is accurate in terms of its song content, even if the actual dating might be shaky due to poorly labeled or unlabeled vault reels, etc.
After 1969, hearsay setlists become more reliable as the band became more popular and there were more fans paying attention and writing down lists. However, I will always be judicious about adding any setlist that does not have a corresponding recording. I won't be blindly including them just because they've been listed somewhere for years. For example, 2/6/79 is the most recent concert for which there are no known recordings. According to Deadlists, someone who was at the show wrote down the list from memory. This person's list corresponded with the Deadbase list with the exception of two additional songs (Stagger Lee and Passenger). I would speculate that this individual was a close follower of the band if they were able to identify songs from Shakedown Street (which had only been released 3 months prior), so I would probably include those two additional songs on Deadweb's setlist. However, a hearsay 1968 setlist that listed an Alligator-> Caution prior to Anthem Of The Sun's release would be far less believable.
